A Embaixada de Bangladesh em parceria com a Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, Ciência e Cultura (UNESCO) no Brasil e a Secretaria de Estado de Cultura e Economia Criativa do Distrito Federal celebraram no Instituto Serzedello Corrêa, em Brasília, o Dia Internacional da Língua Materna. O evento teve o intuito de lembrar e expandir a conscientização sobre a importância da diversidade linguística, cultural e da promoção do multilinguismo.
O Dia Internacional da Língua Materna se originou do Dia do Movimento da Língua, comemorado em Bangladesh desde 1952. Naquela época um movimento de estudantes lutou em favor da língua bengali como a língua oficial do país. Desde então a UNESCO nomeou o dia 21 de Fevereiro como Dia Internacional da Língua Materna, para honrar a memória dos estudantes e ativistas bengaleses e ser um símbolo da luta global para proteger e promover a riqueza e a diversidade de todas as línguas do mundo.
O anfitrião da noite, o Embaixador de Bangladesh, Sr. Zulfiqur Rahman, agradeceu os presentes e destacou que "a edição deste ano incluiu mais países do que a anterior, para que estes mostrem suas riquezas culturais", afirmou Zulfiqur. No total 12 nações realizaram 15 apresentações culturais.
O Embaixador comentou que em breve irá inaugurar, em Brasília, um monumento em homenagem aos mártires que lutaram em prol da diversidade linguística. Os representantes da UNESCO no Brasil e da Secretaria de Estado de Cultura e Economia Criativa do Distrito Federal também estiveram presentes e lembraram da importância de manter viva a língua, a identidade de um povo, especialmente a dos povos indígenas no Brasil.
The Bangladeshi Embassy in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Brazil and the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy of the Federal District celebrated at the Serzedello Corrêa Institute, in Brasilia, the International Day of Mother tongue. The event was intended to remind and expand awareness of the importance of linguistic, cultural diversity and the promotion of multilingualism.
International Mother Language Day originated from the Language Movement Day, celebrated in Bangladesh since 1952. At that time a student movement fought in favor of Bengali as the country's official language. Since then, UNESCO has appointed February 21 as the International Mother Language Day, to honor the memory of Bengali students and activists and to be a symbol of the global struggle to protect and promote the richness and diversity of all languages in the world.
The host of the evening, the Ambassador of Bangladesh, Mr. Zulfiqur Rahman, thanked those present and stressed that "this year's edition included more countries than the previous one, so that they show their cultural riches," said Zulfiqur. In total 12 nations held 15 cultural presentations.
The Ambassador commented that he will soon inaugurate, in Brasilia, a monument in honor of the martyrs who fought for linguistic diversity. Representatives of UNESCO in Brazil and of the State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the Federal District were also present and recalled the importance of keeping the language, the identity of a people alive, especially that of indigenous peoples in Brazil.
